On Jan. 1, 1960 Del Webb opened Sun City to the public for the very first time. Sun City advertised as “America’s Most Famous Resort-Retirement Community” was the very first community designed with this concept not only in Arizona but in the entire country. Del Webb went on with his successful prototype and built more communities for decades to come throughout the United States. Del Webb also built The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Flamingo in Las Vegas.

Sun City started in 1960 and was completed in 1978. There are 27,492 homes. It is a 55+ age restricted community. A younger person may buy in Sun City but there must be someone 55 or over in age residing at that address.
