In Surprise Arizona

Arizona is not only a beautiful state to live in, but because of the fabulous weather, sports are a way of life for all ages of people. As part of the active lifestyle, active seniors are busy throughout the year playing, softball, baseball, pickle ball, bocce, and if you can think it someone is doing it. In the active adult communities in and around Surprise, there are many softball leagues.

ARIZONA TRADITIONS

Arizona Traditions play mostly throughout the year with a Tues/Thursday league and a Saturday league. AZT is one of the few communities that allow non -residents to play on their field. Women and men enjoy the game of softball at Arizona Traditions. The Double Duty Agents are proud sponsors of an AZT softball team. Go DDA!!!!

SUN CITY GRAND SOFTBALL CLUB

Sun City Grand Softball Club play year -round on their very own Del Webb Ballpark aka “The Field of Dreams.” They have meetings on the first Wednesday in Feb., April, Oct., and Dec. 7 pm in the Cimarron Center. Only Sun City Grand residents may be on a team. There are 400 members and a women’s league. The active members have dances and picnics in addition to playing ball.

SUN CITIES SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Sun Cities Softball League games are played on Liberty Field in Sun City West and Sun Bowl in Sun City. The two communities joined and formed three leagues; American, Central, and National. Residents df all skills can find a suitable team. There is a separate league for those 70 years in age and older.

SUN CITY FESTIVAL SOFTBALL CLUB

Sun City Festival Softball Club is open to Sun City Festival residents only and consider players of all skill levels. They play on their own Del Webb Memorial Softball Field. Teams include women and men.

TRILOGY @ VISTANCIA

Trilogy @ Vistancia have 7 to 8 teams and play Tuesdays and Fridays. They determine skill level based on evaluations during try outs. Softball board members and coaches assign the skill rating. Their games are played at Victory Lane on 43rd south of Pinnacle Peak in Glendale.

PEBBLE CREEK SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

For Pebble Creek residents only. They play on Tuesdays and Saturdays and have 12 teams. Players may be 50 years of age to participate. Games are played on either Falcon Field, Goodyear Ball Park, or PCSSA Field. In addition, there are tournament teams made up with players from various active adult communities and cities that participate in Senior Softball USA tournaments. Teams may travel to other Arizona destinations and other states across the nation.

BASEBALL IS ALIVE AND WELL FOR SENIORS!

There is an Arizona MSBL organization with teams starting at ages18, 30, 45, and 60. Any senior may play on a younger aged team. There may be a NABA organization coming sometime in the future. In late October NABA and MSBL each hold their own annual World Series Tournament.

AMERICA’S NEWEST RACKET SPORT

Pickle ball was announced in 1975 by the National Observer and the game grew throughout the US, Canada and internationally. Pickle ball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island in Washington state. The first pickle ball game played in Arizona was in the Az Special Olympics at Happy Trails Resort in Surprise, AZ. The city of Surprise has the Surprise Pickle ball Association and most all active adult communities have their own pickle ball clubs. Sun City Grand, as of Oct.2, 2019 has over 1292 members!

BOCCE ball, fishing, even scuba diving are alive and well in the Surprise area. There are many other sports available. As we stated earlier, "if you can think it someone is doing it!” Come play, stay active, have fun in the Valley of the Sun. Let’s find your place in the sun.
